Tools

  • Flush Cutters

  • 4mm, 6mm Hex

  • 10mm, 19mm Wrench

Step 1: Lower Bed and Power Off Machine

  • Using the front screen navigate to MOVEand press BED DOWN to lower the bed to Z150.

  • You can then shut the machine off by going to config > system > shutdown > printer. Move the power switch at the back of the machine to the off position.

Step 2: Remove Bed Fastener

  • Using a 4mm hex and 10mm socket remove the three M6x75mm countersunk screws holding down the bed. Set this hardware in a safe place as we will be reusing them.

Step 3: Unplug Connectors

  • Unplug the heater and temperature connectors located at the rear-left of the spider plate. Take note of the release tabs shown below:

Installation

Tools

  • Flush Cutters

  • 4mm, 6mm Hex

  • 10mm, 19mm Wrench

Step 1: Replace Bed

  • Now that the old bed is free, you can proceed to swap it out with the new one. Take note of the three locating features on the ALCA5 plate. There is a slot, point, and planar surface that should mate with the corresponding ball point set screws on the spider plate.

Step 2: Set Bed Height

  • Check to see that top of the ALCA5 Bed is within 35-36mm of the top of the spider plate. Adjust the ball point set screws as needed.

Step 3: Install Hardware

  • Insert the M6x75mm countersunk screws into each of the three holes.

  • Install the washers, spring perches, spring, and Nyloc nut in the correct sequence according to the diagram.

  • Torque the Nyloc nut until there is one full thread exposed on the end of the M6 screw.

Step 4: Plug In Connectors

  • Connect the bed heater and temperature sensor wires.

Calibration

Follow this guide to adjust the levelness of the bed with the gantry.

Tools

  • 6mm hex tool

  • 19mm wrench

Procedure

  • Connect to the web interface.Place a clean

  • Make sure there is no spring steel build sheet on the aluminum bed plate, do not use a textured sheet.

  • Home the machine.

  • Place a new or very clean print bed on the heated bed and ensure there is no debris under the bed, on the bed or on the nozzle. Clean or replace the nozzle if necessary.

  • A built-in command is used now to check how parallel the print bed is with the X and Y axes. It will probe three points on the bed and report the height back in the console on the web-interface. Probe the points over the kinematic mounts by entering the following command in the Klipper G-Code Console:

    Code Block
    _PROBE_KINEMATIC_POINTS
Code Block
_PROBE_KINEMATIC_POINTS
  • Alternately you can use the following commands to probe a single point:

Code Block
_PROBE_KINEMATIC_POINT_1
_PROBE_KINEMATIC_POINT_2
_PROBE_KINEMATIC_POINT_3
  • Adjust the three M12 ballpoint set screws that comprise the kinematic mounts on the underside of the bed supporting plate until all 3 probe points are at +/- 0.030mm. Do not adjust the tension springs.

  • Tighten the locknuts with a 19mm wrench and check againThe goal is the have the reported value as close to 0 as possible. The target is 0 +/- 0.030mm. To adjust the height, loosen the large M12 nut using a 19mm wrench, then tighten or loosen the ball-point set-screw using a 6mm hex key or Allen wrench. There are 3 points in total.

    1. The pitch of the ball-point set-screws are 1.75mm per turn, so for example, when you run the “_PROBE_KINEMATIC_POINTS" command and the results are all -0.875mm, then you would have to tighten each screw by 1/2 turn to approach 0mm.

    2. Run the “_PROBE_KINEMATIC_POINTS" command as many times as needed.

  • Once the bed is level, hold the M12 ball-point set-screw in position with the 6mm hex key and tighten the M12 nut using a 19mm wrench. Run the “_PROBE_KINEMATIC_POINTS" command again to ensure the bed hasn’t shifted during the tightening procedure.

    • If needed, the kinematic mounts can be adjusted by as much as 0.040mm with the nuts tightened.
