On all printheads manufactured before the month of May, 2023, there is a flaw in the design of the part cooling duct that causes it to sag below the nozzle, potentially dragging along the print. A new design fixes this issue, involving a new part cooling duct and cold end duct significantly which stiffens the fan assembly.

Tools Required:

  • 2.5mm Allen Wrench

  • 1.5mm Allen Wrench

  • Flush Cutters

  • Loctite 243

Parts Needed:

  • Cold End Duct PN: HSD-000049-MFG

  • Part Cooling Duct PN: HSD-000054-MFG

  • M3x35mm Socket Head Screw

  • Cable Tie

STL Files: Print in CF-Nylon

Step 1: Remove Printhead

Step 2: Cut Cable Tie

  • Using flush cutters snip and remove the cable tie holding down the hot end wires.

Step 3: Remove Ducts

  • Using a 2.5mm Allen unfasten the part cooling duct and the cold end duct from the T plate.

  • Unplug the fan cables to free the assemblies from the printhead.

Step 4: Remove fans

  • On the part cooling fan, using a 2.5mm Allen remove the 4 M3x35mm screws from the old duct.

  • On the cold end blower, peel back the corners of the magnetic shielding foil to expose the M2 screw heads. Using a 1.5mm Allen remove the cold end blower, you may need to use flush cutters or tweezers to hold the M2 nuts from spinning.

Step 6: Prepare Part Cooling Duct

  • Snap off the support and brim from the duct

  • Using a knife, clean the edges of the duct from excess plastic

  • Reusing the previous M2 hardware, fasten the cold end blower to the new duct, and smooth down the magnetic shielding foil.

Step 7: Install fans

  • Reusing the previous M3x35mm screws, fasten the part cooling fan to the new duct, noting wire orientation.

  • Reusing the previous M2 hardware, fasten the cold end blower to the new duct, and smooth down the magnetic shielding foil.

Step 8: Install fan assemblies

  • Use the M3x35mm screw to mate the two Cold end and Part Cooling Assemblies together as one, but do not protrude the threaded side of the screw past the printed parts.

  • Reuse the previous M3x18mm screws and insert them in the part cooling duct. Add Loctite 243 on the threads.

  • Before the next steps involving torqueing down the fasters, please not the position of the Cold end Duct and part cooling fan to makes sure the assembly is seated correctly before tightening.

  • Place the fan assembly on the printhead, and torque the M3x18mm screws on the part cooling duct to the T plate.

  • Torque the M3x35mm screw to the T plate

  • Reconnect the fan cables.

  • Tie down the Hotend cables with a cable tie.
