Flush Cutters
2mm, 2.5mm Hex Drivers
Loctite 243
Torque Screwdriver (0.9Nm)
Cable Tie
To begin, follow the existing guides on our wiki for unloading the filament and removing the printhead from your machine. Once the printhead is removed, bring it to a workbench to facilitate the replacement process.
Inspect your printhead for a zip tie on the part cooling duct. If your printhead is a newer model with a zip tie, cut it to release the Hotend cables. Older printheads may not have this feature, in which case you can skip this step.
Disconnect all heater cartridge plugs and the thermistor cartridge plug from the PCB.
Unscrew the part cooling fan duct (2.5mm Hex) and remove the part cooling fan plug connected to the PCB.
Using a screwdriver, remove the two socket head screws on the heat block (2mm Hex). Once the screws are loosened, the Hotend should be able to wiggle free from the printhead.
Ensure that your new Hotend has the four heat break tubes installed, as well as the socket head screws. Apply a small amount of Loctite 243 on the socket head screws and insert them into the printhead. Gradually torque the screws to a value of 0.9 Nm going back and forth between the two screws to apply even pressure.
Note: When installing the Hotend assembly, ensure that the larger chamfer faces the part cooling fan and the wires are routed around the back/bottom of the printhead. |
Install the part cooling fan (2.5mm Hex) hand tight and reconnect the fan cable.
Insert the thermistor plug and the heater cartridge plugs into their respective connections on the PCB.
If your part cooling fan duct has a cable tie point, use a zip tie to secure the Hotend cables in place.
