Prerequisites

Having access to all sides of the machine, primarily the front, left side, and back are recommended for this installation.

Parts Required

• Camera Module Assembly

• Two M4x18mm screw

• Four 18lb, 4” zip tie

• One 2.54mm shorting jumper (provided but may not be needed)

Tools Required

• 3mm Hex bit or key

• Flush Cutters

• 12mm open ended wrench

• 13mm socket

• 2.5mm hex bit or key

• Loctite 242 (or a comparable medium strength thread-locker)

Procedure

• Turn off the machine.

• Unplug the power cable.

• Remove the Wi-Fi antenna on the back of the machine.

• Remove the back-panel leading to the electronics by removing the six M4x16mm button head screws.

• Remove the following cable track covers:

• Remove the 120mm fan covering the main controller by unplugging the fan from the power distribution board and removing the four M4x35mm socket head screws. You could also remove the three screws not near the fan’s wires and pivot the fan counter-clockwise out of the way, not having to unplug it.

• Move the shorting jumper to the following location or install one if none are present:

• Remove the left side panel by removing the eight M4x16mm button head screws.

• Open the lid to its full extension.

• Remove the Nyloc locking nut of the gas-shock’s upper support on the left side of the machine.

• Pull the support out of the lid side. Be warned that one support may not be sufficient to hold the lid open, it is advised to prop the lid open.

• Remove the lower gas-shock support by removing the two M4x18mm screws.

• Remove the gas-shock and support assembly from the machine.

• Once out of the machine, fully remove the gas-shock from the lower support and transfer it to the Camera Module Assembly.

• Install the Camera Module Assembly using two M4x18mm socket head screws with thread-locker applied.

• Reinstall the upper gas-shock support to the lid and tighten the locking nut.

• Route the two cables from the Camera Module Assembly through the top-plate where the cables for the Y-servo motor pass through.

• Install a zip-tie through the stand of the Camera Module Assembly to hold the cables and another to the servo motor wires near the top-plate.

• Route the USB cable all the way around to the USB port on the main control board and plug into the upper port.

• Secure the cable with a zip-tie.

• Route the other wire to the following connector near the previously moved/installed shorting jumper:

• Secure the cable with a zip-tie.

• Reinstall the 120mm fan with four M4x35mm socket head screws.

• Reinstall the cable track covers.

• Reinstall the rear panel with six M4x16mm button head screws.

• Reinstall the Wi-Fi antenna, threading it onto the SMA connector.

• Reinstall the side panel with eight M4x16mm button head screws.

Considerations

When removing one gas-shock the lid, one shock may or may not be able support the weight of the lid and it may fall uncontrollably onto you or the machine. Be mindful of this and either work with it supported or closed as much as possible.

Enabling the Camera

To enable the camera after the install, go to the settings panel on the web-console, scroll down to WEBCAMS and add a new Webcam. If the camera is plugged into the USB port it should be automatically detected. Give it a name and save and you’re done!

If the camera is not automatically detected it may be required to restart the Crowsnest service. This is the application that manages webcam streaming. To do so, in the upper-right corner of the web-console, there is a power button that lets you control each service of the machine. Click the restart for Crowsnest to restart the service. After, the camera should be able to connect.
