Removing and Installing the Y-axis Servo Motor Coupler
Removing the Coupler
With the machine powered OFF:
Disconnect the cables attached to the servo motor.
Use a 2.5 mm hex bit to loosen the clamping screws of the coupler.
With the coupler loose, remove the four bolts that hold the servo motor in place using a 3mm hex bit. For the bottom two bolts, use an extension that is longer than the servo motor.
Â
Once all four bolts are removed, gently remove the servo motor and coupler.
Installing the Coupler
With the machine powered OFF:
Ensure that the clamping bolts of the coupler are loose.
Place the coupler loosely over the shaft of the servo motor. It will only go on one way.
Insert the servo motor into the motor mount, making sure to slip it into the alignment feature of the motor mount.
The coupler should slip onto the shaft of the ball-screw partway.
Install one of the M4x14 mm socket head bolts using a 3mm hex bit to hold the motor onto the mount.
Fasten the other three bolts to secure the motor properly.
Torque all four bolts to 40 in-lbs or 4.5 N-m.
With the servo motor torqued in place, slide the coupler until it bumps up against the threads on the end of the ball screw. This will ensure that the coupler is evenly in the middle between the shaft of the ball-screw and the shaft of the motor and give access to the clamping bolts of the coupler.
Tighten the clamping bolts in the coupler using a 2.5 mm bit.
Torque the clamping bolts to 1 N-m or 10 in-lbs.
Reconnect the cables of the servo motor before powering on the machine.
