Adjust Probing Z-Height

Adjust Probing Z-Height

With some HS3 machines/printheads, it may be necessary to manually adjust the z-height from probing to get an ideal first layer. Only adjust the probe height if you are experiencing one of the following two conditions:

  1. The first layer is too low consistently across the entire bed.

  2. The first layer is too high consistently across the entire bed.

Do not adjust the probe height if the first layer is inconsistent across the bed. If you are experiencing issues related to probing, please see https://pantheondesign.atlassian.net/wiki/x/A4A3Mw to help diagnose the root cause.

You can permanently adjust the probe offset in the firmware. Open up your printer.cfg file on the web-console to see which extruder config you are using. (Pictured below, the HSD-Extruder-v1.2.cfg is being used), then go to that file and modify the z_offset value. If you got the upgrade kit, just open up the printer.cfg file and search for the z_offset parameter. The default is -0.08mm.

First Layers Too Low

If your first layers are too low, you’ll want make the offset more negative. Meaning if the starting point was the default of -0.08mm, adjust to a more negative number such as -0.1mm. It is recommended to make adjustments of 0.02mm or approximately 10% of a layer height.

First Layers Too High

If your first layers are too high, you’ll want make the offset more positive. Meaning if the starting point was the default of -0.08mm, adjust to a more positive number such as -0.06mm. It is recommended to make adjustments of 0.02mm or approximately 10% of a layer height.

Modified Files

Modifying configuration files will set off a warning in the Update Manager. The repository will become “DIRTY” since a file has been modified.

notice Any manual changes will be overwritten during updates and recoveries. Be sure to record any manual changes in a new separate file.
