HS3 Software Updates

Updating your HS3 with the latest software is critical to maintain it’s performance. Pantheon regularly updates the software stack on the machine to fix bugs, improve features and add new features.

There are two ways to update the software on the HS3:

  1. From the Machine tab on the web console. Printer Controls | Machine

  2. From the System page in the Utilities sub-menu on the machine’s touchscreen. Printer Controls | System

Web Console Update Manager

On the Machine tab of the web console there is an Update Manager that handles the software applications used by the printer.

Upgrading

There will be times when an update is available or that some applications have been modified or are invalid or corrupt. Clicking the refresh button will check the status of each application. There is also a master upgrade button at the bottom UPGRADE ALL COMPONENTS that will go through the updates for each application.

The UPGRADE ALL COMPONENTS button is what Pantheon recommends when updating. This ensures all applications are at versions that are fully compatible with each other. Updating one application to the newest version may lead to situations where it is at a version that is slightly incompatible with other applications that are currently at older version. Update all when updating.

When all applications have a green box with a checkmark, your applications are at the latest released version.

caution Any application with a warning much be recovered before updating is available. Be sure to clear the warnings to allow updates.

Dirty

If one of the applications is “DIRTY” then it is likely that a file needed for that application has been modified. If you have modified that file for your machine, then it is safe to ignore the warning unless your system is not behaving properly. When an application is marked “DIRTY” then you can click on the drop down of the “DIRTY” warning, a “Soft Recovery” and a “Hard Recovery” option will available. Click the “Soft Recovery” option first. If that does not resolve the problem, then try the “Hard Recovery” option. This will revert it back to a stable release.

tip Be sure not to recover any applications which are “DIRTY” due to modifications you made to the files as they will be overwritten. Custom changes to machine configuration files will be marked as “DIRTY” and may be overwritten during recoveries.

Corrupt

If one of the applications is marked “CORRUPT” then you will be given the option to recover the application and it will revert back to a stable release. Please recover any applications with the “CORRUPT” marking as they are likely not working properly.

Detached

Applications with the “DETACHED” warning in the update manager are in a similar state as corrupt applications. It means the application has lost tracking of potential updates. Please do a soft recovery first and then a hard recovery if a soft recovery does not clear the warning.

Touchscreen System Update

The update manager is accessible from the machine’s touchscreen interface by navigating to the SYSTEM page in the UTILITIES sub-menu.

Always click the “Refresh” button to check for updates and then the “Full Update” to ensure all applications are updated to the latest version.

caution Any application with a warning much be recovered before updating is available. Be sure to clear the warnings to allow updates.

Applications with an “Update” mark beside them means there is an available update. Tapping the update button next to the application will bring up a window with the details of the update and an option to update or cancel.

If anything is wrong with one of the applications it will be marked “Invalid.” Tapping on the “Invalid” button will bring up a window with the option to recover the application. Always try a Soft Recovery before a Hard Recovery. You can view the reason for the “Invalid” marker in the update manager of the Web Console.
