Replacing a Y-Motor Mount

Tools and Parts Required

  • 5mm Hex Tool

  • 3mm Hex Tool

  • 2.5mm Hex Tool

  • 2mm Hex Tool

  • 19mm Wrench

  • Pantheon Ball-screw Clamp

Removing the Motor Mount

With the machine powered OFF:

  • Unplug the connectors to the Y-axis servo motor.

  • Use a 2.5 mm hex bit to loosen the clamping screws of the coupler.

  • With the coupler loose, remove the four bolts that hold the servo motor in place using a 3mm hex bit. For the bottom two bolts, use an extension that is longer than the servo motor.

  • Once all four bolts are removed, gently remove the servo motor and the coupler. Place off to the side.

  • Move the gantry by hand to the center of travel.

  • Loosen the two grub-screws on the locknut of the ball-screw.

  • Place the Pantheon Ball-screw Clamp tool over the smooth portion of the ball-screw end, ensure there is good contact (free of debris or oils) between the clamp and the ball-screw. Tighten the clamping bolt on the tool with a 5mm hex bit to 160in*lbs (18N*m).

  • Place the 19mm wrench over the ball-screw locknut.

  • Loosen the locknut by counter-rotating the 19mm wrench and the ball-screw clamping tool. You may need tighten the clamping bolt of the ball-screw clamping tool if the tool begins to slip on the shaft of the ball-screw.

  • Once loose, remove the 19mm wrench and clamping tool. Then remove the locknut by hand.

  • There are two collars on either side of the bearing within the motor mount that fit over the end of the ball-screw as shown below.

  • Loosen the four M6 bolts using a 5mm hex bit that hold the motor mount in place.

  • Loosen the two M6 bolts that hold the floating mount of the ball-screw at the opposite side of the ball-screw.

  • Slowly slide the gantry so that the end of the ball-screw slides out of the motor mount. Be sure to collect the collars. The bearing at the other end of the ball-screw will slide out of the floating side as well. It is held in place with a circlip. There is no need to remove the bearing or circlip.

  • Fully remove the four M6 bolts of the motor mount.

  • Fully remove the motor mount.

Installing the Motor Mount

noticeThe instructions below assume that the machine is in the state after following the procedures above in the “Removing the Motor Mount” section.

noticeBefore powering on the machine, be sure all tools and hardware are not within the machine that could cause failures when the machine moves. Keeps hands free from any pinch points.

  • Power ON the machine.

  • Navigate to the HOMING page on the screen.

  • Press the Home Y routine.

  • After the Home Y routine finishes, torque the four M6 bolts to 60in*lbs (7N*m) to secure the motor mount in place.

  • Navigate to the ACTIONS page on the screen and disable all the motors.

  • Move the gantry by hand away from the home position to the far end of travel.

  • Torque the two M6 bolts of the floating ball-screw support to 60in*lbs (7N*m).

  • The Y-axis motion system should now be fully secure.

noticeBe sure to home all the axes before using the machine for print jobs.
